GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College seniors
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler),
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) and
Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) were named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Players to Watch Wednesday.
Wightman was recently named a USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III Preseason All-American.
Named to the Third Team, Wightman ranked second in Division III in 2023 in goals (102). She tied for 11
th in Division III in points (110).
Wightman is a three-time All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) First Team selection. Her 102 goals and 110 points in 2023 set new program single-season records. She also set a new PAC single-season record in goals.
A goalkeeper, Liggett was the PAC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-PAC First Team pick as a sophomore in 2022.
In 2022, Liggett led the league in save percentage (.561). She recorded an 8.75 goals-against average, which ranked second in the conference. She made 134 saves, the fourth-most in a season in program history, and her 11.17 saves per game ranked third in the PAC.
A defender, Cassano was an All-PAC Second Team selection as a junior. She recorded nine points (8G, 1A) in 2023. She was second on the team last season in ground balls (46) and third in caused turnovers (23).
The Tomcats, who went 6-10 overall and 2-7 in PAC play in 2023, were predicted to finish eighth in the PAC in 2024 per the league's preseason poll, which was voted on by the conference's 10 head coaches.
Thiel will host the Calvin Knights in their season opener on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game will begin at 3 p.m.
