WASHINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 9) – The Thiel College wrestling team, led by second-place finishes from freshman
Caullin Summers (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) at 165 and transfer
Joey King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) at 184, finished 9th of 13 teams at the season-opening Washington & Jefferson Invitational Saturday at Ross Recreation Center.
Summers posted a pair of technical falls to begin the day over W&J's Griffin Sams (18-2) and UMBC's Trevor Campbell (21-5). He then moved onto the championship bout as Hiram's Seth Holt injury defaulted. Summers was pinned in the championship bout by Gettysburg's Justin Richey to finish second and go 3-1 for the invitational.
King got his day started with a pin over Muskingum's Rugby Meza and topped Southern Virginia's Ikia Garcia with a 3-0 decision to move into the semifinals. There, he topped Pitt Bradford's DJ Slovick by a 14-3 major decision. King was pinned in the final by Waynesburg's Jessie Orbinto finish 3-1 on the day.

Mequan Maxwell (Sharon, Pa./Sharon),
Chase Kyler (Sheffield, Pa./Sheffield) and
Austin Parker (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) each went 2-2 on the day while
Hunter Crouse (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) and
Ty Rambo (Wellsville, Ohio/Wellsville Local) each picked up a win.
At 149,
Jacob Potts (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) went 2-2 with wins via technical fall and pin.
Landon Mead (Clarendon, Pa./Sheffield) notched a win at 157 with a pin.
Howie Congdon (Homestead, Pa./West Mifflin) (197) and
Joey Peterson (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) (285) each notched a win in the season-opening tournament.
Thiel returns to action Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. when they participate in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
