Gregory, Jenness, DeLattre power Women's Volleyball to win over Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Nov. 2) -- The Thiel College women's volleyball team, behind a combined 37 kills from Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser), Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) and Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), posted a 3-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Geneva College Saturday afternoon at Metheny Fieldhouse.

The Tomcats rise to 17-6 overall and 5-3 in the PAC with the win while the Golden Tornadoes fall to 9-18 on the year and 1-7 in the conference. Thiel is currently tied with Chatham for third place in the league as the top six teams make the PAC Championship Tournament.

The visitors posted set score wins of 25-21, 25-22, 17-25 and 25-21.

Tied at 18 in the opening set, the Tomcats got a pair of kills from Aaleeah Brennan (North Port, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and Gregory to push the lead to 2. After a Geneva sideout, Thiel strung together 3 straight points on a pair of DeLattre kills along with one from Gregory to go ahead 23-19. DeLattre notched the final 2 points of the set for the visitors to seal the 25-21 win.

Set two was played evenly throughout as there were 11 ties, two lead changes and neither side held a lead greater than 3. Even at 20, the GT's tallied the next 2 points to go ahead 22-20, but the Tomcats tied things up after a pair of Geneva attacking errors. Jenness knocked back-to-back kills and Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) whipped up an ace to steal the set on a 5-0 run and pull ahead 2-0.

Geneva jumped to a quick 5-0 set-three lead but the Tomcats responded with 4 consecutive points to make it 5-4. Play was even until about the halfway point of the set as a Reynolds kill trimmed the Golden Tornadoes lead to 16-15. The home side closed the set on a 9-2 run to force a fourth set.

The Tomcats used a 4-0 spurt in set four to open a 12-8 advantage. Geneva stayed in the set and trailed 14-16 but back-to-back attacking errors, a Gregory kill and a pair of blocks gave the Tomcats their largest lead of the set (21-14). The Golden Tornadoes tallied the next 4 points but kills from Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown), Gregory, DeLattre and Jenness ultimately sealed the match for the visitors.

Gregory tied her season best and posted a match-high-tying 14 kills along with 18 digs for her ninth double-double of the year. Jenness notched 13 kills for her eighth straight match and 18th on the year with 10-plus kills. DeLattre had 10 kills, 11 digs and a team-best three total blocks (one BS, four BA) for her second double-double of the year.

As a trio, Gregory, Jenness and DeLattre had nearly as many kills (37) as Geneva did as a squad (38).

Reynolds posted a match-best 38 assists to go with 17 digs for her 16th double-double of the year. Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) posted a team-leading 27 digs for her 13th 20-plus dig effort of the season.

The Tomcats return to action Wednesday when they host conference-leading Allegheny at 7 p.m.
