Logan rushes for a touchdown, Tomcats fall to Wolverines in 40th Mercer County Cup

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College football team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road to the Grove City Wolverines, 59-7, Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Grove City took the lead after the first play from scrimmage as Boden Davidson picked off a pass, and returned it for a touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, Grove City was able to force a three-and-out, before the Wolverines took a 14-0 lead after a 46-yard touchdown pass.

Thiel looked to respond, putting together a good drive, but it was stopped by a third-down sack to force a punt.

Grove City responded with a 15-play, 81-yard drive that took nine minutes to increase their lead to 21-0.

Grove City forced another three-and-out, before Thiel matched them with a three-and-out.

On the ensuing possession, a blocked punt by Grove City set the Wolverines up inside the Thiel five. On the next play, Grove City punched the ball into the endzone, taking a 35-0 lead.

Grove City would add two additional touchdowns to go into halftime up 49-0.

On the opening drive of the second half, the Tomcats forced a turnover on downs, setting them up at their own 25 yard line.

With Thiel's first offensive drive of the second half, they were able to go 75 yards in 15 plays, with Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) punching the ball in from one yard out for his first touchdown of the season. The drive took 8:23.

Grove City responded with a touchdown of their own with an 82-yard touchdown pass.

The Wolverines would add a field goal to round out the scoring.

Thiel was led by Daniel Rennie (Cape Coral, Fla./Oasis) who went 11-for-21 for 109 yards. On the ground, Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) recorded 51 yards on 12 carries, including the Tomcats' only touchdown of the game. Tanner Renie ran for 19 yards on eight attempts.

Jason Stone (Chester, Pa./Chester) led Thiel through the air, catching two passes for 55 yards. Ryan Acosta (El Paso, Texas/Americas) made three catches for 23 yards.

Defensively, Matt Jordan (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) recorded eight tackles, while Robert Dixie (Youngstown, Ohio/Woodridge) also recorded eight tackles. Justin Logan (North Chesterfield, Va./James River) recorded four tackles and two pass breakups, while Jake Badger (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) added seven tackles.

For Grove City, Logan Pfeuffer completed 13-of-19 passes for 211 yards and four touchdowns. Ethan Wiley added one touchdown pass.

Nico Flati rushed for 59 yards on nine carries with one touchdown. Sutton Ellis added 21 yards on two carries.

Through the air, Scott Fraser recorded seven catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively for Grove City, Caleb Brubaker recorded eight tackles and picked off one pass. Boden Davidson picked off two passes, while Ben Bladel added two tackles, both of which were sacks.

The Tomcats return to Alumni Stadium on Saturday when they host the Saint Vincent Bearcats for senior day. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
