NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 23) – The Thiel College men's soccer team defeated the Westminster Titans, 1-0, on the road at UPMC Sports Complex in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match Wednesday night.
The win marks the first for the Tomcats over the Titans since a 1-0 win in 2010.
The win moved Thiel to 7-7-1 and 2-6 in PAC play, while Westminster drops to 5-8-2 and 2-6 in conference play.
The lone goal of the game came in the 16
th minute through freshman
Mitchell Strauss (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area), which is his third goal of the season. Strauss is tied for the team lead with 14 points.
Thiel was led by Strauss, who scored the lone goal of the match.
Logan Gordon (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) recorded two shots, while
Ethan Bihler (Bossier City, La./Benton) added another shot.
Pierson Badowski (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and
Neko Hatton (Bryans Road, Md./Henry E. Lackey) each recorded one shot as well.
In goal,
Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) made seven saves in his fourth career clean-sheet. Stefanowicz is now tied for fourth in program history in shutouts (4).
For Westminster, Connor Schmidt led the way with four shots, including one on goal. Santiago Fernandez also recorded four shots.
Aaron Snyder made two saves for the Titans.
The Tomcats will travel to Allegheny on Saturday for their final road match of the season. The PAC match is slated to begin at noon.
