GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road to the Grove City Wolverines, 66-61, Saturday afternoon at Grove City College Arena.
Grove City opened up an 18-10 lead heading into the first media timeout. The Tomcats cut the Wolverines deficit to just two (20-18) with a little over eight minutes remaining in the first half, but a 12-6 run gave Grove City a 32-24 lead at halftime.
Thiel came back to take a 47-44 lead with 11:13 left to play in regulation, before a 9-2 run gave Grove City the lead back for good.
The Tomcats were led by
Elijah Harden (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) who recorded 15 points and added one rebound and one assist.
Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) recorded 11 points and four rebounds, while
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) recorded 10 points and five rebounds. Freshman duo
Jonah Biggers (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and
Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) recorded nine and two points, respectively, with Accursio-Harris adding eight rebounds. Freshman guard
Logan Lentz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) scored his first collegiate basket.
The Wolverines were led by Chase Yarberough who notched a game-high 28 points and seven rebounds. Kyle Randle recorded 14 points and four assists, while Mike Christenson recorded eight points and three boards.
The Tomcats are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes for the first of two straight home games. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
