ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team opened up the Elmira Invitational with a non-conference loss to the Hobart Statesmen, 3-0, Friday night inside Speidel Gymnasium.
Hobart won in straight sets 25-20, 25-13, 25-19.
The Tomcats were led by
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) who recorded six kills, while
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) recorded four kills and three digs.
Connor McInnis (Southington, Conn./Southington) recorded two service aces and
Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) recorded a team-high six digs.
Ben Lowell (Portland, Ore./Sunset) recorded a team-best 15 assists.
The Statesmen were led by Andrew Kim who recorded 15 kills and five digs. Gavin Meador recorded seven digs, while Zack Farren recorded a game-best 32 assists.
The Tomcats will conclude the Elmira Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday. First, Thiel will play Nazareth at 11 a.m., before concluding play against SUNY Potsdam at 1 p.m.
