Tomcats go 2-0 at PAC Preview Tournament

LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team won a pair of matches against the Bethany Bison and the Saint Vincent Bearcats on Saturday during the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Preview Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent.

Thiel defeated Bethany in straight sets 25-12, 25-18, 25-9.

Will Zimmerman (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Tomcats with 10 kills and two service aces. Tyler Hussey (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded seven kills and three service aces. Ben Lowell (Portland, Ore./Sunset) recorded a team-high seven digs and 17 assists.

Bethany was led by McKay Ginez who recorded three kills and five digs. Alexander Blair recorded10 assists, while Leonardo Locatelli recorded three kills.

Thiel edged Saint Vincent with set scores of 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-9.

The Bearcats won the first two sets 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead.

However, the Tomcats would take the final three sets for the non-conference win.

Thiel was led by Zimmerman who recorded 15 kills and 10 digs. Hussey and James Cromwell-Young (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) each recorded 14 kills. Cromwell-Young also added four blocks. Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) recorded a game-high 26 digs, while Eli Olszowka (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) recorded a game-high 57 assists. Kaleb Proudfoot (Butler, Pa./Butler) also added 12 kills and five blocks.

Saint Vincent was led by Shawn McSwiggen who recorded 21 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Zebadiah Wyant and Matthew Minkin each recorded 10 kills. Minkin also added a team-high 12 digs, while Wyant added a team-high 42 assists.

Cromwell-Young was also named to the PAC Preview All-Tournament Team.

The Tomcats return to action on Friday when they travel to Elmira for the Elmira Invitational. They will play Hobart at 5 p.m. on Friday night, before playing Nazareth at 11 a.m. and SUNY Potsdam at 3 p.m.
