GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games on the road to the Grove City Wolverines Monday afternoon.
The Wolverines took game one 8-1 before completed in the sweep with a 13-10 game two win. Game two was halted after 7 ½ innings due to darkness.
In game one, Grove City got out to an early 3-0 lead. The Wolverines then added one run in the second and two in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Thiel added a run in the fifth, before Grove City added runs in the sixth and eighth innings rounded out the scoring.
In game one, Thiel was led by
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth), who went 2-for-4.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) went 1-for-3 including driving in the Tomcats only run of the game.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start for the Tomcats, going five innings with two strikeouts.
Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion) pitched the final three innings, giving up two runs and striking out two.
Grove City was led by Markus Williams who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Mally Kilbane went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Luke Vittone went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
David Leslie started for the Wolverines, going seven innings with seven strikeouts. Robby Randolph pitched in relief, going two innings with three strikeouts.
In game two, Thiel had a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Tomcats added a run in the fifth, before the Wolverines added six to take a 7-6 lead. The Tomcats responded with three runs of their own in the sixth, before the Wolverines added four more to take 11-9 lead. Thiel added a run in the seventh, before Grove City added two in the bottom half of the inning to round out the scoring.
Thiel was led by
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went 2-for-3.
Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City) and
Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) each recorded and RBI.
Grove City was led by Mally Kilbane who went 5-for-5 with two RBIs. C.J. Saylor went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Shane Cato went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started for the Tomcats, going 4.1 innings, giving up four runs and striking out two.
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice),
Ian Mills (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and
Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane) all pitched in relief.
Grove City started Mally Kilbane on the mound, going one inning. Isaiah Zuchowski went four innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Noah Cyphert went three innings, allowing four runs and striking out two in the win.
The Tomcats return to PAC action on the road against Allegheny on Wednesday. The conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
