GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Bethany Bison Saturday at Tomcat Park.
Bethany won 7-4 in Game 1 and 7-3 in Game 2.
Bethany opened the first game with a pair of runs in the first inning. Thiel tied up the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI-double by
Julianna Sloan (Kingsville, Ohio/Edgewood) and a run-scoring single by
Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area).
The Bison went ahead 4-2 in the third on a pair of unearned runs. The Tomcats responded with two runs in the fourth.
Amber Wilkes (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) hit an RBI-triple to right center field in the fourth while
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) drove in the game-tying run on a single to center field.
The Bison went on to score three runs in the seventh inning and retired the Tomcats in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win in the first game.
Roddy went 3-for-4 in Game 1 with one RBI. Wilkes tripled while Sloan doubled.
Roddy absorbed the loss in Game 1. She allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with a pair of strikeouts. Josie Wise earned the win in three innings of relief work. Wise refused to give up a run while allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
Bethany plated three runs in the first inning of Game 2.
Julianna Sloan (Kingsville, Ohio/Edgewood) cut into the lead in the bottom of the first when she hit a solo home run to right center field. Sloan's homer was her sixth of the season, which tied her for the most in a season in program history with Danielle Massengill (2012).
Bethany extended its lead to 7-1 after six innings. The Tomcats loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning but were only able to score two runs when Yothers singled up the middle.
Yothers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in Game 2. Roddy also had two hits.
Wise won Game 2. She allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The Tomcats are scheduled to play the La Roche Redhawks on the road Monday. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m.
