Johnson, Wightman lead Tomcats against Barons

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Franciscan Barons Wednesday at Alumni Stadium, 20-16.

Trailing 10-6, the Tomcats scored four consecutive goals over the final 3:31 of the first half to force a tie at halftime. Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) scored two goals during the stretch while Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) netted one goal apiece.

Thiel trailed 16-13 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Wightman got the Tomcats within a goal just over a minute later after scoring back-to-back markers 32 seconds apart, but the Tomcats couldn't come up with the game-tying goal down the stretch and the Barons held on for the conference win.

Johnson led Thiel with nine points (5G, 4A). She also recorded four draw controls and a ground ball. Wightman scored seven goals and added an assist for eight points. She also had five draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) scored four goals and also contributed three draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Grace Deegan led the Barons with eight points (6G, 2A).

Justina Jenkins (Dresden, N.Y./Penn Yan) made six saves for Thiel. Rose Kane also made six saves for the Barons.

The Tomcats will face the Westminster Titans on the road Friday. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
