Tomcats edge Saxons for third straight win

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team won a non-conference game on the road Saturday over the Alfred Saxons, 15-14.
 
In a game that went back-and-forth for 60 minutes, Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) gave the Tomcats a three-goal lead (14-11) when she scored an unassisted goal with 12:53 remaining in the fourth quarter. Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored what would count as the eventual game-winning goal with 4:19 remaining in regulation.
 
Johnson led Thiel with seven goals. She also assisted on two goals to finish the game with nine points. Johnson also tallied four caused turnovers, three draw controls and three ground balls.
 
Wightman, who registered 10 draw controls, scored four goals and picked up three ground balls. Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) recorded three points (2G, 1A) while also contributing six draw controls and three ground balls.
 
Amelia Booth led the Saxons with seven points (5G, 2A) and four draw controls.
 
The Tomcats extended their winning streak to three games with Saturday's win over the Saxons.
 
Annie Boyd (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) made five saves to improve to 3-0 on the season. Alyssa Piechota made 17 saves for Alfred.
 
The Tomcats (4-2) will host the Marietta Pioneers (4-3) Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game will start at 6 p.m.
