PITTSBURGH – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the La Roche Redhawks 18-9 in a non-conference game on the road Wednesday.
La Roche held an early 2-0 lead but Thiel went on to score five consecutive goals and held an 11-4 lead at halftime.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored a game-high nine goals for the Tomcats. She also recorded 10 draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Wightman's nine goals tied her for the third most in a single game in program history. Her nine points tied her for the seventh most in single-game program history.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) tallied eight points (4G, 4A). She also registered nine draw controls, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) scored four goals while
Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) netted one goal.
Tea Smith paced the Redhawks with three goals.
Thiel's
Annie Boyd (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) made four saves to improve to 2-0 on the season. Jules Hornikel made 19 saves for La Roche.
Thiel (3-2) will face the Alfred Saxons (0-2) on the road Saturday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
