FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a non-conference game to the Gettysburg Bullets, 14-1, Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and never surrendered the lead.
The Tomcats tied it up in the top of the second when
JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) grounded out, which brought home
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley).
Gettysburg would score 13 unanswered runs to seal the non-conference win.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went 2-for-4 to lead the Tomcats.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley),
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), Sittig and
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) all recorded a hit. Gerle recorded the teams only RBI.
Ian Mills (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) started the game on the mound for the Tomcats, going 4.0 innings and striking out three. Bintrim pitched 3.0 innings in relief, recording three strikeouts and allowing two runs, one of which was earned.
Zakary Phillis (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) closed out the game on the mound for the Tomcats.
Gettysburg was led by Jack Pistner who went 3-for-5 with two RBI's. Preston Toothman went 2-for-5, recording four RBI's.
Nate Masteralexis started the game for the Bullets, going 5.0 innings, striking out three and giving up one earned run to earn the win.
The Tomcats will close out their Florida trip against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
