Tomcats close out Florida trip against Dolphins

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team closed out their Florida spring training trip with a 3-2 non-conference loss to the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins Sunday morning.

The Dolphins scored one run apiece in the first two innings to take a quick 2-0 lead. However, Tomcat starter Charlie Luedtke (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) settled into the game, recording four of his six strikeouts after the second inning.

The Tomcats would tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning when Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) doubled to left center field, scoring Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union). He would advance to third on the throw to home plate and would score to tie the game 2-2 on a throwing error by the Dolphins catcher.

The Dolphins would score on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to give them the lead for good.

For the Tomcats, Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) went 2-for-3 including a double to lead the team. Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley), Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe), Jacobs and Morrison all recorded a hit as well, with Morrison also recording an RBI.
