FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference game to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays, 16-1 Friday afternoon.
The Blue Jays took the lead on a two-out bases loaded walk in the top of the second inning, and never looked back. The Blue Jays scored in six of the nine innings.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start on the mound for the Tomcats. He went 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and striking out six.
Garrison Martin (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch),
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice),
Blake Gibson (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) and
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) all pitched in relief. The Tomcat pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) led the Tomcats offensively, going 2-for-4. Freshman
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) hit his first homerun in a Tomcat uniform for the Tomcats only run of the game.
Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) went 1-for-3 in his first collegiate start.
AJ Bednar went 2-for-4 including four RBI'S. Quinten Perilli went 2-for-4 and drew one walk. Riley Thomas went 1-for-1 and drove in two runs.
Kyle Mulville started the game on the bump for the Blue Jays, going 3.0 innings and striking out six to earn the win. The Blue Jays pitching staff recorded 14 strikeouts.
The Tomcats will play their penultimate game in Florida against Gettysburg on Saturday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at noon.
