Tomcats drop to Marauders, Bulldogs at Adrian Quad

ADRIAN, MI. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team concluded play in the Adrian Quad with non-conference losses to Central State and Adrian.
 
The Central State Marauders won the first two sets 25-19, 25-18, while the Tomcats forced a fourth set with a 25-19 third set win. However, Central State won the fourth set 25-20 to win the match.
 
The Tomcats were led by JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) who recorded a team-high nine kills to go along with a team-high 14 digs and five blocks. James Cromwell-Young (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) also recorded four blocks. Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) tallied seven kills and 11 digs. Connor McInnis (Southington, Conn./Southington) recorded five kills and two blocks. Josh Pugh (Wexford, Pa./Pine Richland) recorded a team-high 26 assists.
 
Central State was led by Tyrone Sands and D'Aaron McCraney who each tallied 13 kills. Carlos Pinto and Victor Scherer each notched 18 digs. Pinto also recorded a game-high 37 assists.
 
In the second match, the Tomcats won the first set 27-25. Adrian won the second set 25-19, and Thiel won the third set 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead. However, Adrian won the final two sets 25-17, 15-8 to win the match.
 
Thiel was led by Smith who tallied seven kills, eight digs and two blocks. Govannucci tallied a team-high nine kills to go along with five digs. Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) recorded six kills and four digs. Pugh notched 16 assists, and Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) tallied a team-high nine digs.
 
Adrian was led by Chase Heuer who tallied a game-high 20 kills and 12 digs. Carson Bell recorded four blocks, while David Barona recorded 15 assists.
 
The Tomcats return to action when they travel to Carlow on Tuesday. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
