ALTOONA, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team defeated the Penn-State Altoona Lions, 3-2, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match Friday night.
The Tomcats took the first set 25-17, but the Lions took the next two 25-21, 25-20.
The Tomcats would take the final two sets (25-23, 15-10) to win the game.
The Tomcats were led by sophomore
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin), who tallied a team-high 12 kills to go along with four blocks.
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) notched 11 kills to go along with 10 digs and one block.
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) tallied four kills and racked up 13 digs, while
Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) notched a game-high 24 digs.
Ethan Cooper (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) notched a team-high 32 assists.
For the Lions, Avery Farabaugh led the way with a game-high 17 kills and 11 digs. Jeremy Winter notched 19 digs, and Xavier Vang notched a game-high 38 assists.
The Tomcats return to AMCC action on Tuesday when they travel to Medaille. The conference match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
