HIRAM, Ohio – The Thiel College wrestling team earned a 36-13 non-conference win Thursday on the road over the Hiram Terriers.
EJ McCarthy (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) and
Evan Whiteside (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) gave the Tomcats a 12-0 lead after they both won by pin. McCarthy pinned Ian Fuentes in the 125-pound bout in 1:23 while Whiteside turned Jon Waszil in 3:17 at 133.
Jacob Potts (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) scored the only other points the Tomcats would need when he won by decision over Ashton Kauf, 6-2.
Howie Congdon (Homestead, Pa./West Mifflin) also won by decision at 197 over Zach Harper, 10-5.
Seth Phillips (Hubbard, Ohio/Western Reserve) capped off the win for the Tomcats when he pinned Edward Powers at 285 in 3:58.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) competition Wednesday, Jan. 10 when they face the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
