PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Saturday night to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans, 80-22.
Thiel cut Carnegie Mellon's lead in half (30-15) late in the second quarter on a pair of touchdowns, the first of which was a 38-yard pass from
Scott Oliver (Hunlock Creek, Pa./Northwest Area) to
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land).
Donny Pattison (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area) converted the two-point conversion to put the finishing touches on the six-play drive that covered 75 yards in 2:39.
Oliver also threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to
Andrew Plowden (Homewood, Pa./Penn Hills Charter) with 2:43 remaining in the first half.
Preston Lefkowitz (Warren, Ohio/Champion) added the extra point.
Jorden Collier (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) scored Thiel's final touchdown on an 11-yard run with 10:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Oliver completed 15-of-30 passes for 211 yards. He threw two touchdown passes and two interceptions. Lawler caught 11 passes for 85 yards and a score while
Blake Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) caught five passes for 45 yards.
Collier led the Tomcats on the ground with 68 yards and one touchdown on 12 totes. Plowden ran for 51 yards on 10 carries. He also caught two passes for 89 yards and scored a touchdown.
Carnegie Mellon's Ben Mills completed 15-of-26 passes for 152 yards. He threw three touchdown passes and one interception.
Tre Vasiliadis paced the Tartans on the ground with 39 yards on 13 carries.
Jared Curcio (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) led the Tomcats with 10 tackles.
Raymond Jackson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) intercepted a pass, made two tackles and broke up two passes.
Donelle Thomas (Miramar, Fla./Miami Carol) broke up four passes and made two tackles.
The Tomcats (2-4, 2-4 PAC) will host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes (1-4, 1-4 PAC) Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff for the PAC game is set for 1 p.m.
