Geneva edges Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, 20-9.
 
Thiel freshman kicker Preston Lefkowitz (Warren, Ohio/Champion) scored the first three points of the game with 11:38 remaining in the second quarter when he made a 37-yard field goal. The field goal capped off a 14-play, 48-yard drive that consumed 6:39 of the game clock.
 
Geneva responded with a pair of touchdowns through the remainder of the second quarter to hold a 13-3 lead at halftime. Both touchdowns were on passes from Brutus Ogilvie to Hilton McClain Jr. The first, which was scored with 8:56 left in the first half, was from 33 yards out while the second was a 22-yarder with 1:09 remaining in the first half.
 
McClain Jr. also caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Ogilvie with 14 seconds remaining in the third quarter to extend Geneva's lead to 20-3.
 
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to 11 points but the Tomcats couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
 
Joseph Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) completed 7-of-14 passes for 53 yards. He also led the Tomcats with 66 yards on the ground on 13 attempts. Lawler ran for 47 yards on three totes. He also caught one pass for 24 yards.
 
Ogilvie completed 10-of-16 passes for 159 yards. He threw three touchdown passes and two interceptions.
 
David Reid III led the Golden Tornadoes on the ground with 161 yards on 33 carries. Ogilvie ran for 46 yards on nine carries.
 
McClain Jr. caught four passes, three of which were touchdown receptions, for 119 yards.
 
Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) led Thiel with 10 tackles. He also broke up a pass. Randall Miller (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) made eight tackles, two of which were for a loss of yards. He also had one sack. Da'Mier Clark (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) and Caleb Shuler (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) each had one interception.
 
Luke Blasko led the Golden Tornadoes with 11 tackles. Daniel Guzevich made three tackles and intercepted a pass.
 
The Tomcats will face the Allegheny Gators on the road on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff for the PAC game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
