WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on the road Friday over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 38-8.
Thiel improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the PAC with Friday's win.
The Tomcats opened the match with six consecutive wins and built up a 26-0 lead. Thiel picked up bonus points in six matches, including pins by
Jake Alberts (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) at 141 (5:46) and
Seth Phillips (Hubbard, Ohio/Western Reserve) at 285 (2:10).
Hunter Martz (Hawthorn, Pa./Redbank Valley) and
Alexander Anderson (Warren, Pa./Warren) won by technical fall at 157 and 165, respectively. Martz won 22-5 in 6:30 while Anderson won 19-3 in 5:21.
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area), who was named the PAC Wrestler of the Week Monday after posting a 5-0 record last week, won by major decision (14-1) at 149.
The Tomcats will compete in the John Summa Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4. Thiel will host the PAC Championships at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 11.
