BEREA, Ohio – The Thiel College men's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches Sunday during play in the Baldwin Wallace Invitational.
Thiel defeated St. Norbert 3-1 before falling to Marian 3-1.
The St. Norbert Green Knights won the first set (25-22), but the Tomcats rebounded to win 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 in the next three sets.
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led the Tomcats against the Green Knights with 15 kills while also recording seven digs.
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) tallied 13 kills and seven digs.
Ethan Cooper (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) handed out 38 assists.
Owen Knezevich paced St. Norbert with 13 kills and nine digs.
The Marian Sabres defeated Thiel in four sets (25-15, 22-25, 25-11, 25-15).
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) paced the Tomcats against the Sabres with six kills. Smith registered six digs and five kills while Dies recorded five kills and three blocks.
Isaac Dreifuerst led Marian with 19 kills. Cam Muller notched 10 kills.
The Tomcats (3-2) will host the Penn State Behrend Lions (0-1) on Tuesday. The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match will begin at 7 p.m.
