Thiel beats W&J in PAC match

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team defeated the Washington & Jefferson Presidents 43-10 Tuesday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
The Tomcats earned bonus points in four bouts, including three pins, while winning by forfeit at three weight classes.
 
At 141, Jake Alberts (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) earned Thiel's first pin when he turned Jaizik Sanabria in 2:31. Bryce McCloskey (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) pinned Nick Funovits in 1:10 at 184 while Braydon Herbster (Linesville, Pa./Reynolds) pinned Robert Sheeler in 1:02 at 197. Named the PAC Wrestler of the Week on Monday, Herbster was coming off a 4-0 week that included a pin and a pair of major decisions.
 
Peyton Hearn (Conneaut, Pa./Conneaut Area) won by major decision (10-1) over Nicholas Montalbano at 157 while Hunter Martz (Hawthorn, Pa./Redbank Valley) defeated Christian Logan (13-6) at 149.
 
Thiel improved to 5-1 overall on the season with Tuesday's win.
 
The Tomcats will compete in the Dr. Si Ostrach Duals, hosted by Case Western Reserve, on Saturday. The first match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
