GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Tomcats went 1-1 Saturday during the final day of competition at the Thiel Tournament, which took place at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel opened the day with a 3-1 win over Alma Scots. The Grove City Wolverines edged the Tomcats 3-2 in the final match of the tournament.
Thiel defeated Alma 25-20, 25-18, 24-26, 25-13.
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) led the Tomcats with 18 kills against the Scots while also contributing eight digs.
Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) tallied 17 kills.
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) and
Katie Stamp (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) chipped in with six kills apiece.
Also for the Tomcats,
Brooke Talbot (Calcutta, Ohio/Beaver Local) registered 48 assists while
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) tallied 28 digs.
Grove City defeated Thiel by set scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13. Torres led the Tomcats with 29 digs and 22 kills. Stamp and McDonald recorded nine and eight kills, respectively.
Talbot handed out 49 assists to go along with 16 digs against the Wolverines. Aulet and
Sarah Orr (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Area) recorded 45 and 20 digs, respectively.
The Tomcats (5-6) will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road Tuesday against the Westminster Titans. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
