WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 9-4 by the Washington & Jefferson Presidents in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Sunday.
The Presidents were bolstered by a six-run second inning and limited the Tomcats' bats.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led Thiel with three hits and a run scored.
Conner Lewis (Salineville, Ohio/Southern Local) reached base in both of his plate appearances and scored a run with a hit and a walk.
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) reached twice and scored twice.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) and
Derek Knapp (Warren, Pa./Warren) each drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Williams also drew two walks.
On the mound,
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) was charged with the loss in six innings pitched.
Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) pitched the final two innings and recorded a strikeout.
For the Presidents, Jacob LaDuca went 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and a double. Jameson Campbell earned the win in 5.1 innings pitched.
The Tomcats are scheduled to conclude their season with a series against the Franciscan Barons. Thiel will play at Franciscan at 4 p.m. on Friday. Saturday will be a doubleheader at Thiel on senior day with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
