STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the Franciscan Barons, 10-8, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Saturday.
The Tomcats and Barons were tied at three through the first quarter after two goals in the final 1:37 by the Tomcats. The Barons ended the half with three unanswered goals in the final 5:13 to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was all Thiel as the Tomcats outscored the Barons 4-0 to take an 8-6 lead into the final quarter. The Tomcats and Barons each scored two in the fourth as the Tomcats held on to win 10-8.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) led the Tomcats with five points on four goals and an assist. She also added three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) notched three goals, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
Juanima Van Zandt (Baltimore, Md./Edmonson West) and
Maddy Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored two and one goal(s), respectively.
Abby Carrizales (Houston, Texas/Lamar) recorded an assist.
Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) led the Tomcats with five ground balls and tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) registered seven saves and allowed eight goals in the win in net. She also tallied three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
For the Barons, Grace Deegan scored four goals. Goalkeeper Rose Kane made 12 saves and allowed 10 goals in the loss.
The Tomcats will take on the Westminster Titans at Alumni Stadium Wednesday at 4 p.m.
