Mosley’s late goal lifts Thiel over Franciscan, 9-8

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Darien Mosley (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco H.S. & Center for the Arts) scored with 1:32 remaining in regulation Saturday to lift the Thiel College men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Franciscan Barons at Alumni Stadium.
 
Deadlocked 8-8, Alex Andreozzi (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) caused a turnover in Thiel's end that led to Mosley's goal. Mosley ran behind the Franciscan cage toward the near side of the field and bounced in the game-winner from a sharp angle.
 
Thiel improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in PAC play with the win.
 
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) led the Tomcats with three goals. Nick Sylvis (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored two goals while Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion), Selom Kalin-Samlan (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) and John Robbins (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) tallied one goal apiece.
 
Evan Whiteside (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won 14-of-21 faceoffs for the Tomcats and also corralled six ground balls. Andreozzi picked up six ground balls and caused five turnovers. Justin Mason (Alden, N.Y./Alden Central) also caused five turnovers while securing four ground balls.
 
Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made 14 saves to earn his fourth win of the season. Richard Vale II also made 14 saves for Franciscan.
 
Samuel Marshall paced the Barons with two goals.
 
The Tomcats will host the Grove City Wolverines Wednesday at Alumni Stadium. The PAC game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
