Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Ed Topoleski

Presidents edge Tomcats, 8-6

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium to the W&J Presidents, 8-6.
 
With the game tied 3-3 late in the second quarter, Amanda Effland gave the Presidents a 4-3 lead at the break when she scored with 94 seconds remaining before halftime after receiving a pass from Sofia Jenkins.
 
W&J increased its lead to 6-3 early in the third quarter, but Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) and Maddy Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) got the Tomcats back within a goal (6-5) on unassisted markers later in the period.
 
Sarah Labovitz scored an up-goal to extend W&J's lead to 7-5 near the midpoint of the fourth quarter. Thirty-seven seconds later, Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) got the Tomcats back within a goal when she scored on a feed from Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area).
 
Aisa Uhler sealed the win for the Presidents when she scored with 3:29 remaining in regulation.
 
Johnson scored a game-high three goals for the Tomcats, who fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in PAC play with the loss. Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored two goals while also recording eight ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
 
Effland led W&J with three points (2G, 1A) while also recording a game-best eight draw controls. Labovitz scored two goals for the Presidents, who improved to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in PAC play with the win.
 
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made eight saves for Thiel. She also registered seven ground balls and a caused turnover. Kaitlyn Brown made eight saves for W&J.
 
The Tomcats will face the Franciscan Lady Barons on the road Saturday. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
