Thiel falls to Waynesburg in extra innings

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated 9-8 in 11 innings by the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday.
 
The two teams were tied 3-3 entering the seventh inning. The big inning led to eight runs combined and saw the Tomcats take a 8-6 lead. In the ninth, the Yellow Jackets stormed back to tie the game and would eventually win it with a walk-off in the 11th inning.
 
Every Tomcats' starter got at least one hit and one RBI or run in the game. Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) and Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) each notched a double, a run, and two RBIs. Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) scored two runs and drove in a run. Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) registered two hits with a run and an RBI. Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) hit a double, a single, and scored a run. Michael Aches (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canevin) and Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) recorded a run and an RBI, respectively, and each went 2-for-5.
 
On the mound, Richard Crooks (Milan, Ohio/Edison) pitched five innings with five strikeouts and allowed three runs (two earned). Max Siguenza (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) was charged with the loss in relief.
 
For the Yellow Jackets, Mike Bell hit a game-tying two-run triple in the ninth and totaled three RBIs on the day. Cody Ray hit the walk-off single. Alec Engelmore earned his second win against the Tomcats, tossing 4.2 shutout innings of relief.
 
The Tomcats will look to bounce back as they take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats on the road in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
