GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Tuesday at Tomcat Park to the Grove City Wolverines. Grove City won the first game 11-3 and the second game 4-1.
Leading 3-0 after two innings, the Wolverines scored eight runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead in the first game.
Thiel plated three runs in the fifth, two of which scored on
Heather Farr's (Conneaut, Ohio/Edgewood) single to right field.
Melina Bufalini (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) also drove in a run on a single up the middle.
Kaitlyn Constantino earned the win. She allowed just one hit through four innings without allowing a run. Constantino struck out eight batters.
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) threw two and one-third innings of relief for the Tomcats without allowing a run. Roddy gave up two hits and struck out two batters.
Grove City opened the second game with two runs in the top of the first inning. Thiel cut the lead in half in bottom of the first on
Dani Ficeti's (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) RBI-double to left center field.
The Wolverines added a run in the fifth inning and another in the seventh frame to earn their second win of the day.
Roddy allowed three earned runs on nine hits in the second game. She struck out two batters and allowed one walk. Janessa Dawson earned the win. In seven innings, she allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
The Tomcats are scheduled to host the Westminster Titans on Saturday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
