GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 8-3, by the Bethany Bison in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Tuesday.
The Tomcats struck first in the second and held a 3-1 lead entering the seventh inning. The Bison tallied seven runs between the seventh and eighth innings to take control and win 8-3.
For the Tomcats,
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) totaled three hits, including his second home run of the season.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) went 1-for-2 with a double and a run.
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) also notched a hit and a run.
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville),
Adam Walker (Mercer, Pa./Mercer), and
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) each recorded a hit. Rago has reached base safely in all 17 of his starts so far this season and has a hit in 15 of those games.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) pitched well but was charged with the loss, throwing seven innings of four-run ball (two earned) with four strikeouts and no walks.
Tyler Roddy (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
For the Bison, Mark Lavezza allowed three runs (two earned) with seven strikeouts in a complete game. Stefan Blackstone notched three runs and Cory Newman drove in three runs.
The Tomcats will travel to decide their season series tomorrow against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m.
