GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated twice in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on Saturday.
The Tomcats lost 9-5 in game one and 8-4 in game two. In both games, the Presidents had a four-run frame in one of the first two innings and maintained their lead.
In game one,
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning. It was Sittig's first collegiate home run and Rago's fifth of the season.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) notched two hits, including a double, and a run.
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) drove in and scored a run.
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) recorded a run batted in (RBI), while
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) scored a run.
On the mound,
Richard Crooks (Milan, Ohio/Edison) was charged with the loss.
Alex Lutz (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) allowed just one run on four hits and a walk in four innings of relief with two strikeouts.
In game two, Williams and Jacobs each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jacobs also doubled.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) and
Derek Knapp (Warren, Pa./Warren) each knocked in a run. Rago and
Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) each notched a hit and scored a run.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) was charged with the loss but tossed seven innings with three strikeouts.
For the Presidents, Roman Samson homered in both games. Evan Sante homered in game one. Henry Litman and Tyler Horvat each earned wins. Dante DiMatteo recorded a save in game two.
The Tomcats and Presidents will finish the series with one game tomorrow in Washington, Pa. at noon.
