WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Sunday with a pair of losses on the road to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg won the first game 6-0 and the second game 10-1 in five innings.
Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area) led the Tomcats at the plate in the first game with a double.
Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Lauren Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) each singled.
Catcher Brin Hunter went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI for the Yellow Jackets in the first game.
Sydney Wilson earned the win in the first game. She allowed three hits and struck out 11 batters.
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) allowed three earned runs while striking out two batters for the Tomcats.
Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) gave the Tomcats a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game when she hit an RBI-single to right field, but the Yellow Jackets plated seven runs in the bottom of the first and went on to add three more runs over the next three innings to complete the sweep.
Ficeti and Yothers both went 1-for-2 in the second game.
Outfielder Reghan Benschoter led Waynesburg at the plate in the second game with a 3-for-3 effort that included three RBIs, a triple, a double and two runs scored.
Ella Brookman earned the win in Game 2. She allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out five batters. Thiel's
Lauren Bonner (Hermitage, Pa./Reynolds) struck out two batters.
The Tomcats are scheduled to host the Grove City Wolverines Tuesday at Tomcat Park. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
