PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler),
Maddy Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and
Juanima Van Zandt (Baltimore, Md./Edmonson West) each scored five goals Wednesday to lead the Thiel College women's lacrosse team to a 16-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win on the road over the Chatham Cougars.
The Tomcats outscored the Cougars 6-2 in the second quarter to hold a 9-5 lead at halftime.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored four goals in the second quarter. The Tomcats never trailed after her first goal in the second quarter, and her goal at the 3:42 mark, which came on a pass from
Abby Carrizales (Houston, Texas/Lamar), would count as the eventual game-winner.
Maddy Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led all players with six points (5G, 1A) while also contributing eight draw controls and five ground balls.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored five goals and led all players with 11 ground balls while also securing six draw controls.
Van Zandt's five goals were a single-game personal best. Carrizales chipped in with four points (1G, 3A), which was also a single-game best.
Brielle Rapsas paced Chatham with three goals.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made 13 saves to record her sixth win of the season. Aria Dietrich made 15 saves for Chatham.
Thiel improved to 4-3 in league play with Wednesday's win while Chatham fell to 3-4.
The Tomcats will take on the Bethany Bison on the road Saturday. The PAC game will begin at 1 p.m.
