Tomcats topped by Titans to conclude series

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 4-3, by the Westminster Titans in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday.

The Titans kept the Tomcats' bats at bay, as Thiel was held scoreless for six innings and trailed 4-0. The Tomcats scored in the seventh and added two more in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.

Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) led the Tomcats with three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs. Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) hit a pinch-hit RBI-double in the ninth then scored on a Wentling single. Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and Dylan Branham (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) also scored a run apiece. Branham had one of Thiel's four doubles on the day. Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) and Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) each notched two hits.

On the mound, Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) relieved Harvey in the bottom of the sixth and got a flyout to strand the bases loaded. Katon pitched two more shutout innings in the seventh and eighth.

For Westminster, Logan Murgenovich tallied three hits with a run scored and RBI. Kolton Banfi pitched six shutout innings to earn the win. Logan Minch stranded a runner on first to earn the save.

The Tomcats look to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to Erie to take on the Penn State Behrend Lions at 4 p.m.
