BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College softball team lost both games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader to the Bethany Bison on Saturday.
The first game was a pitchers' duel, but the Tomcats were held scoreless as the Bison won, 2-0. In game two, the Bison took an 8-1 lead through four innings. The Tomcats began to claw back but could not close the gap as the Bison won, 8-5.
In game one,
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) allowed just two runs (one earned) in six innings. She struck out one batter and didn't allow a walk. Roddy also got a hit at the plate.
In game two,
Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) tallied three hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and
Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. One of Yothers' two hits was a double and she also stole a base.
Casey Buechel (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes),
Julianna Sloan (Kingsville, Ohio/Edgewood), and
Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) each recorded a hit and scored a run.
On the mound,
Lauren Bonner (Hermitage, Pa./Reynolds) was charged with the loss. Roddy came in in relief and gave up just two hits and no runs in 2.1 innings.
For the Bison, Josie Wise tossed a shutout in game one. In game two, Destiny Goodnight hit a home run and tallied three runs and two RBIs.
The Tomcats will next travel to Geneva to take on the Golden Tornadoes in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
