GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated the Chatham Cougars, 12-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown on Friday.
The Tomcats notched three innings of at least three runs to take a commanding 11-1 lead after five innings. Another run was added to Thiel's total en route to a 12-4 victory, the most runs the Tomcats have scored and their largest margin of victory since March 9th against Rockford.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) hit two solo home runs for the first multi-home run game of his career. He now has four home runs on the season and improved his PAC-leading season batting average to .464.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBIs, a double, and a run.
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) tallied four runs for the second time this season with three hits and an RBI.
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) hit a two-run double and scored two runs with two hits and a walk.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) each notched a pair of hits. Johnson scored two runs and Morrison drove in a run.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) reached base twice and scored a run.
On the mound,
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) earned his second win in six innings of two-run ball. He allowed just four hits and struck out six.
Derek Knapp (Warren, Pa./Warren) earned his first career save in three innings with a strikeout.
For the Cougars, Brandon Griener hit a solo home run. Tyler Cote recorded a run and an RBI. Dominic Costellic was charged with his second loss of the season in three innings pitched.
The Tomcats are now on a three-game winning streak and a four-game winning streak at Tomcat Park. The team will head to Chatham to finish the series tomorrow in an evening doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.
