GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Wednesday at Tomcat Park. W&J won the first game 6-3 and the second game 10-1.
Thiel tied up the first game 1-1 in the fourth inning when catcher
Lauren Durboraw (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) hit an RBI-single to center field.
The Presidents responded with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) hit a 2-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth to cut lead down to 5-3, but the Presidents scored another run in the sixth and refused to allow the Tomcats to score the rest of the game.
Julianna Sloan (Kingsville, Ohio/Edgewood) and
Casey Buechel (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) both hit a double for the Tomcats.
Alisha Kulka allowed just five hits and struck out three batters for the Presidents.
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) also struck out three batters for the Tomcats.
Sloan gave the Tomcats a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game on a fielder's choice, but the Presidents tied up the game in the second inning. The Presidents went on to score nine runs over the third and fourth innings to earn their second win of the day in five innings.
W&J's Sydney Petrowski allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in the second game. Thiel's
Lauren Bonner (Hermitage, Pa./Reynolds) struck out three batters.
The Tomcats will face the Westminster Titans on the road on Friday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m.
