OBERLIN, Ohio – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team scored six unanswered fourth-quarter goals Saturday on the road in a non-conference game against the Oberlin Yeowomen, but it wasn't enough for the Tomcats in a 12-11 loss.
Trailing 12-5 after 45 minutes, Thiel scored four man-up goals early in the fourth quarter.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) scored the first of the man-advantage goals with 11:24 remaining.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored the next three goals, the last of which cut the lead down to 12-9 with 9:51 remaining.
Johnson went on to score two more even-strength goals down the stretch, the second of which made it a one-goal game with 1:28 remaining in regulation. But the Yeowomen went on to win the ensuing draw and held on for the non-conference win.
Wightman led the Tomcats with six goals and 13 draw controls. Johnson scored four goals and contributed two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Reilly Jackman led Oberlin with six points (5G, 1A).
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made 17 saves for the Tomcats. She also tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Alumni Stadium. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
