BETHANY, W.Va. – The Thiel College baseball team split a doubleheader against the Bethany Bison in the Tomcats' first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games on Friday.
In game one, Bethany led 5-1 after the first inning. However, the Tomcats held the Bison scoreless the rest of the game and scored five runs of their own to earn a 6-5 comeback victory.
In game two, the Bison had four innings with at least three runs as they would defeat the Tomcats 17-7.
In game one,
Dan Lutz (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) hit his first home run as a Tomcat. He also drove in the tying run in the fifth inning.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) earned his second win of the season, allowing five runs (two earned) with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Max Siguenza (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) faced one batter but stranded the tying run in the sixth inning.
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) pitched the seventh inning and struck out two to earn his first save of the season.
In game two, Lutz,
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley),
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), and
Derek Knapp (Warren, Pa./Warren) recorded two hits apiece. Bintrim and Lutz each drove in two runs and scored one run. Knapp doubled and notched a run and an RBI.
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) reached base twice and tallied a run and an RBI.
Richard Crooks (Milan, Ohio/Edison) was charged with the loss in the start in 3.1 innings pitched.
For the Bison, Kevin Pollock went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI in game one. In game two, he added three hits and two walks with five RBIs and two runs. Zach Pressnell suffered the loss in game one in 5.1 innings of work, while Trey Mantle was credited with the win in 6.1 innings pitched in game two.
The Tomcats and Bison are scheduled to play again on Sunday with a single game at Tomcat Park. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
