GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 9-6, by the Hiram Terriers at Tomcat Park on Thursday.
The Terriers scored six runs in the first two innings. The Tomcats answered with a six-run fourth inning to tie the game. However, the Terriers added three more runs and the Tomcats were held scoreless the rest of the game en route to a 9-6 final score.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) led the Tomcats with four hits in his first varsity start with Thiel. He also scored a run.
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.
Adam Walker (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) reached base twice and drove in a run.
Derek Knapp (Warren, Pa./Warren) hit a double and scored a run.
On the mound,
Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) struck out two and allowed six runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings.
Charlie Luedtke (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) gave up two unearned runs in 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and was charged with the loss.
Alex Lutz (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) pitched a shutout inning in relief and
Max Siguenza (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) gave up one run and struck out one in an inning of relief.
For the Terriers, Evan Fairbanks knocked in two runs and scored a run. Kyle Workman scored two runs and recorded one RBI. Relievers Stephen Javorek and Jacob Kocuba pitched two shutout innings apiece to record a win and a save, respectively.
The Tomcats begin Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play tomorrow at Bethany with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
