BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team was defeated, 3-1, by the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) matchup on Wednesday.
The Tomcats took the first set 25-22 and dropped the next two sets by the same score, 25-22. Thiel remained close in the fourth and deciding set, but Geneva won it, 31-29.
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led the Tomcats with 18 kills and added 11 digs.
Nick Koorsen (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./Shaler Area) led the team with 15 digs.
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) and
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) notched 10 kills apiece.
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) led Thiel with five block assists and a solo block.
Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) and
Ethan Scott (Glenn Rock, Pa./Dallastown ) tallied 25 and 23 assists, respectively.
For the Golden Tornadoes, Peter Barbato recorded 17 kills and seven digs. Curtis Thomas added 47 assists.
The Tomcats will look to bounce back in an AMCC tri-match this Saturday at Penn State Behrend. Thiel will face Saint Vincent at 3 p.m. and the host Lions at 5 p.m.
