HIRAM, Ohio – The Thiel College men's volleyball team won an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match on the road Wednesday over the Hiram Terriers, 3-2.
The Tomcats won the first set 25-21, but the Terriers won the second and third sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-11. Thiel won 25-16 in the fourth set and 15-13 in the fifth set to earn the conference victory.
Jacob Smeltzer (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led Thiel with 12 kills and four blocks.
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) and
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) tallied 10 and nine kills, respectively.
Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) handed out 20 assists and also contributed a team-best 13 digs.
Also for Thiel,
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) recorded 12 digs and eight kills.
Colton Greenlee (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) registered seven kills and three blocks.
Nathan Cassell paced the Terriers with 12 kills and six digs. Tom Supan led all players with 15 digs while also contributing 11 kills.
Thiel improved to 3-3 in AMCC play with Wednesday's win. The Tomcats will play a pair of AMCC matches on the road Saturday. Thiel will play a neutral site game against Saint Vincent at 1 p.m. before facing the host Medaille Mavericks at 3 p.m.
