GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the Medaille Mavericks 14-8 Saturday in a non-conference game at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
Medaille held an early 3-1 lead, but back-to-back goals by
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) forced a 3-3 tie at the end of the first quarter.
Camy Seman (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area) gave the Tomcats their first lead less than a minute into the second quarter. The Tomcats would not trail the rest of the game en route to their second consecutive win.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led the Tomcats with six goals while also contributing 12 draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) tallied five points (2G, 3A) while
Maddy Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored three goals and collected five draw controls and three ground balls.
Also for the Tomcats,
Juanima Van Zandt (Baltimore, Md./Edmonson West) scored two goals and Seman registered two points (1G, 1A).
Cameron Briggs paced the Mavericks (3-3) with four goals.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made 15 saves to earn her second win of the season. Tatiana Wright made nine saves for Medaille.
Thiel (2-1) will take on Oberlin (2-4) on the road on Saturday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
