FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 4-12, by the Plymouth State Panthers in the Gene Cusic Classic on Thursday.
The game was shortened to five innings due to darkness.
Plymouth State took an early lead and never looked back. The Panthers scored nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 12-4 final.
For the Tomcats,
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) reached base all three times with two hits, including a double. Williams knocked in a run and scored a run.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) also notched a double, an RBI, and a run.
Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Starting pitcher
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) suffered a loss in 3.2 innings pitched, allowing seven runs (four earned).
For the Panthers, Luke Sokolski drove in three runs and scored two. Jackson Curtis was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Bobby Cliche was awarded the win, allowing four runs and striking out four in five innings.
The Tomcats will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on the Rockford Regents at the Player Development Complex at noon.
