GREENVILLE, PA – The Thiel College men's volleyball team dropped an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match against the Geneva Golden Tornadoes, 3-2, at Beeghly Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Tomcats won the first set (25-18), but would drop the next two sets (25-18, 25-17). Thiel would win the fourth set (25-23) to force a fifth set but fell in the final set (15-9).
Thiel's
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) led with a match-high 18 kills while also contributing 10 digs, three assists, and four blocks against the Golden Tornadoes.
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) and
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) tallied 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) led the Tomcats with five block assists and recorded a solo block.
Ricky Castillo (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) tallied a game-high 13 digs.
Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) dished out a team-high 38 assists.
Byron Spear led the Golden Tornadoes with 15 kills, while also recording three assists. Peter Barbato would tally a team-high 11 digs, while Curtis Thomas would dish out a team-high 38 assists.
The Tomcats will play AMCC matches against Penn State Altoona and Hilbert College at Penn State Altoona on Saturday. The Penn State Altoona match will start at 1 p.m. with the Hilbert match to follow at 3 p.m.
