GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game to the Hilbert Hawks Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome, 14-7.
Thiel trailed 8-3 at halftime. The Tomcats got back into the game late in the third quarter when, over a roughly 4-minute stretch, they scored four consecutive goals to cut the lead down to three goals (10-7).
Darien Mosley (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco H.S. & Center for the Arts) and
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) scored unassisted goals 19 seconds apart during Thiel's 4-goal run.
Thadd Bell (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored a man-up goal on a pass from
Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) at the 5:16 mark of the third quarter while
Bennett Medyn (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra Macedon) followed with another unassisted goal.
The Hawks countered with a 4-goal streak of their own over the remainder of the game to earn the non-conference win.
Medyn paced Thiel with two goals and eight ground balls.
Scott Van Iderstine (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won 13 faceoffs, picked up four ground balls and recorded one assist.
Selom Kalin-Samlan (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) scored a goal and registered seven ground balls.
Daniel Flynn (5G, 1A) and Liam Doyle (3G, 3A) led Hilbert with six points apiece.
Griffin Miller recorded 11 saves for Hilbert.
Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made 10 saves for Thiel.
The Tomcats will host the Medaille Mavericks Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game will begin at 1 p.m.
