Tomcats defeat Mounties, fall to Lions

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) tri-match Sunday against the Penn State Behrend Lions and the Mount Aloysius Mounties at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Thiel concluded the tri-match with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-23) win over Mount Aloysius.
 
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) led the Tomcats with a match-high 15 kills against the Mounties. JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) recorded seven kills. Austin Siko (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) registered nine digs while Connor McInnis (Southington, Conn. /Southington) and Nick Koorsen (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./Shaler Area) tallied eight digs apiece. Ethan Scott (Glenn Rock, Pa./Dallastown ) led all players with 34 assists.
 
Andrew Wlodarczyk paced Mount Aloysius with 12 kills. Liam Craw recorded a match-best 11 digs.
 
Penn State Behrend opened the tri-match with a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-18, 27-25) over Thiel.
 
Govannucci notched 14 kills against the Lions while Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) had 16 digs and 10 kills. Colton Greenlee (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) and Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) tallied eight kills apiece while Brandon Millias (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse ) handed out 30 assists while also contributing 12 digs. Ricky Castillo (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) chipped in with 15 digs.
 
JP Goodsel led the Lions, who went 2-0 on the day, with 14 kills and seven digs. Adrian Martinez led all players with 20 digs.
 
The Tomcats will host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Wednesday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The AMCC match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
