ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team concluded play in the Fisher Invite Sunday with non-conference losses to SUNY Polytechnic and Rutgers-Newark.
The SUNY Poly Wildcats won in straight sets 25-20, 25-19, 26-24.
JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) led Thiel against SUNY Poly with six kills, three digs and a pair of aces.
Jake Dies (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) recorded five digs and four kills while
Ethan Cooper (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) tallied four kills and three digs.
Ricky Castillo (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the Tomcats with eight digs.
Garrett Hassard and Kohei Clark led the Wildcats with nine kills apiece. Jason Aubrey registered 14 digs and eight kills while Nathan Farnham notched 37 assists.
The Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders, ranked No. 7 in the most recent NVA/AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, won in straight sets: 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
Govannucci led the Tomcats with six kills and two digs. Dies tallied four kills and four digs while
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) also had four kills.
Ethan Scott (Glenn Rock, Pa./Dallastown ) contributed 19 assists and three digs.
Elan Dorkhman led Rutgers-Newark with nine kills. Eric Hollenbach and Martin Chromulak each recorded seven kills. Derek Au chipped in with 35 assists.
